City police make arrest in home invasion case

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Police are still looking suspects after one arrest in the Wednesday home invasion on Jackson Street.

According to Roanoke Rapids Deputy Police Chief Adam Bondarek, three black males brandishing a knife entered a home at 2 a.m. Wednesday, demanding sneakers and money. They left with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency and property.

Friday morning, Bondarek announced an arrest in the case. Haywaun Hyman, 23, of Weldon, was charged with two counts of second degree kidnapping, one count of first degree burglary and one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon. 

Hyman was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center under $50,000 bond.

He’s due in court Aug. 25.
