Each year friends and families enjoy quality time during the patriotic holiday. Bands, clowns, youngsters on bikes, kids on skates, kiddy cars, antique cars, fire trucks and horses all lined up to make some noise and have a blast while everyone celebrates our nation’s birthday.

“We have the Shriners from Raleigh,” said parade co-coordinator Heidi Hogan. “We have John Skinner with his farm equipment - you know that’s important. It says something about who we are. We have the old fire engine from Enfield and old army vehicles.”

Hogan said this year’s Grand Marshall is Gussy Silver. Silver has owned three businesses in Littleton over the years and is known in the community. “She has stuck with the town,” said Hogan. “She takes time to help people and this is so exciting!”

After the parade, it’s a great time to stroll around town and enjoy the antebellum mansions dressed up for the occasion. Don’t be surprised if the neighbors offer you a hot dog.

This year’s parade is July 3 at 10 a.m., and everyone’s invited to be in the parade or to watch from the sidelines.

There is no charge to participate, but larger groups, participants with floats or moving vehicles are asked to call ahead to reserve a spot.

Participants are asked to assemble at Lakeland Theatre Company at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin promptly at 10 a.m.
