LAKE GASTON — Finding out about helping your lake community — along with having fun, getting an inside perspective and so much more — now becomes easier.

O’Sail, Organization to Support the Arts, Infrastructure and Learning on Lake Gaston, unveiled it’s first e-mail newsletter this week, the “O’Sail Scuttlebutt.”

Members of O’Sail and interested citizens of Lake Gaston now have a way to stay up-to-date on O’Sail’s activities and upcoming events.

The newsletter has a nautical theme and features “From the Bridge” a word or two from O’Sail President Kathy Dikeman, “On the Horizon” — information on upcoming O’Sail events and “From the Crow’s Nest” features from Editor Marcia Kerr.

“It took a lot of people working together to make this happen,” said Kerr. She said the newsletter will probably come out once a quarter.

There are also important links and information on grants provided by O’Sail to lake organizations. O’Sail, is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization located at the Lake.

The group is probably best known for the annual “The Crossing,” a one mile swim or paddle across Lake Gaston at Eaton’s Ferry Bridge, from Morning Star Marina to Dockside Landing.

Another fundraiser put on by O’Sail is “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner … ” a monthly dinner featuring a surprise guest. Last month’s event hosted Hermie Sadler, of Hermie Sadler Racing, and Lizzie, with Lizzie Smith Racing. Sadler and Smith shared with the crowd what it’s like to grow up in families deeply rooted in racing traditions.

Kerr said, “We hope people will find Scuttlebutt fun and informative.“
