Samuel D. Harris Jr.

IMGRAM, Texas — Samuel D. Harris Jr., 72, of Ingram, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday Nov. 6, 2009, at a care center.

He was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Weldon, to Samuel and Estelle Harris Sr. Sam served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957. He married Charlotte Hudson on Oct. 12, 2007, in Kendall County. Sam was a member of Victory Baptist Church of Kerrville, Texas.  He retired from International Paper Company in Roanoke Rapids and after retirement he loved to work at Wal-Marts in Kerrville. Sam loved to fish, hunt, bird watch, travel, music, his church family and playing Bingo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lynn; and his sister, Jacquelyn Thompson.

Sam is survived by his wife, Charlotte Harris of Ingram; sons, Sammy Harris and his wife, BG, and Bruce Harris and his wife, Cassie, both of Cary; brothers, William Harris and his wife, Kathy, and Daniel Harris and his wife, Rose, both of Roanoke Rapids; sisters, Lois Russell and her husband, Joseph, Darlene Wolgemuth and Louise Harris, all of Roanoke Rapids; four grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends who loved him and will miss him.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at Victory Baptist Church, 510 Mill Run Road, Kerrville, with Pastor Day officiating.

 A memorial service will also be held in Roanoke Rapids at a later date.

 Wright’s Funeral Parlor in Kerrville is handling the arrangements.
