Detective Jonathan Merritt is investigating the breaking and entering of vending machines Monday night at the Green Store on Highway 48 and at Five Points on the corner of Highways 48 and 903.

The suspects are allegedly driving a silver Chevy HHR, similar to a PT Cruiser. Investigators said they have video of two black men taken during the thefts. The first man is in his 40s and bald. The second man is believed to be in his 20s, with a close hair cut and a well manicured beard.

Merritt said the two men drove up to both stores and emptied the money out of the vending machines.

Roanoke Rapids Police Detective Sgt. Jeff Baggett said there has been a rash of vending machine robberies in Roanoke Rapids. His department is investigating 15 reported breaking and entering incidents of 19 coin machines over the past few months.

The two agencies are working together on the cases.
