Things You'll Need

* Pen

* Notebook

* Cheap Tape Recorder/Digital Voice Recorder

* Ability to take effective notes

Step One

Your having a problem with your car, Ok. Don't Panic. This is what your going to want to do first.

Step Two

Take out your notebook from the glove box/storage in your car.

- Write down exactly what your hearing

- write down exactly what your smelling

- does it smell sweet, smoky?

- If you can write down a diagram of where you see something leaking for future reference.

- Drawing a diagram of approximately where you see a drip in the notebook may help them locate the issue later. You don't need to be an artist.

Step Three

If you have a Voice/Tape Recorder if the vehicle is making a noise try to record it. Don't say anything during. Just record the noise. So maybe they can clearly hear what you heard.

- This may save you some time in diagnosing the issue later.

- Saving money with clock hours is very important at $70 an hour labor!

Step Four

Do not be afraid when you take it in. To ask them to go for a drive with you if its a squeak, knock or something you only hear while driving the vehicle. If they don't want to do that, maybe you want to take it somewhere else. Most dealership Service Advisor's should be willing to do this.

Step Five

If you do not get satisfaction and they either cannot find or feel they have solved the problem.

- Talk to the Service Advisor explain your situation more clearly, politely.

- Do not be afraid to ask for the Service Manager or to speak directly to the Technician working on your vehicle.

Step Six

If this still fails and your dissatisfied. Check with your State Department of Motor Vehicles. - Most states require Auto Repair Facilities to be licensed.

- You can file a grievance with your Better Business Bureau You have rights as a Consumer, know them and protect yourself.

- Always require Approval before any work is done and note who you spoke to, day and time they called, etc.
