Roanoke Rapids Police Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said around 1:20 a.m., officers were called to the Presto Convenience Store at 142 Julian R. Alsbrook Highway, where the store clerk told law enforcement a black male with dreadlocks dressed in a multi-colored design T-shirt had just robbed the business. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

The Weldon Police K-9 Unit assisted in a preliminary search of the area.

Officers made contact with an Emory Street resident and upon further investigation of the home, police discovered a man matching the description of the robbery suspect hiding in the bathroom.

Evidence was collected and Troy Lee Banks, 35, of Pleasant Hill, was taken into custody on a robbery charge.

At that time, Banks told police he was just released from prison the previous day. According to the N.C. Department of Correction Web site, Banks has a long history with the legal system and was released Wednesday morning after serving time for common law robbery.

Banks was jailed at the Halifax County Detention Center under an $8,000 secured bond with a Nov. 18 court date.

" I agree about the silly comments, no, what he did was not right. Many of us are brought up in good homes, and make the wrong decisions. My question to Paul is.. the prison system offers these programs to inmates while they are in prison, but what happens when they are released. You have some people that, when they are released want to change and do better, but are not given the easiest opportunity to because of their record. I'm not making excuses for anyone, but you can't expect someone to be released back into society after years of prison without any training, skill, or employment to do much without any assistance or ways to make money. Many found themselves trapped in the same environment that they got in trouble in with nowhere to turn. So where is the help for felons, that are released from prision and have served their debt to society, and sincerly want to make a change? I know of none. Do you??? "

" It always seems that we can talk about someone else until the shoe is on the other foot or it happens to someone that we know or love. This only goes to prove that prison or jail does not reform a person. WHY do we see another doing bad and do nothing to help them or why do we want to see another doing bad? What makes one sin better than the other? Talking about the next man is no better than if we did the robbery. Let's build each other up instead of taking each other down. God Bless All "

" If we don't ever look around we're never know who really needs help. This man is lost in a world that has no ending and no beingging. When we don't take the time to use the power of the mind that the Lord has giving each one of us it's trully a waste. So try not to judge others as much as we do, because God is the true Judge.(Sorry but it is what it is.) "

" A church boy?? As in he robbed a church? For people to defend that he "just needs help" is rediculous. He obviously has decided that he does not want to work for anything but to steal from people who do. I say 3 strikes your out...death penatly. "

Say what you can do to help this poor guy out not ignore the fact that help has never been offered just put in jail and never thought of. If you know of any programs that may assist in the recovery of this man please list them in your comments. Lets help this guy out!! "
