Emergency:You could have killed Someone!

I was driving down Thelma Road Thursday night, and was trying to pull onto Huckleberry Bottom to get out of the way of an oncoming firetruck, when I was run off the road by an ambulance attempting to pass the firetruck.  It was a double yellow, nighttime, a curve, and the accident was less than a half mile down the road.  There was no reason to risk my life and the lives of my infant son and 3 year old daughter for no gain in time.  There were plenty of emergency vehicles already on the scene.  It wasn't like they were going to be the first one's there.  Emergency vehicles are not above the law and the ethics they signed up for when they decided to help people.  Think:  The car you are meeting in traffic has a person or a family in it.  Hmmm...causing an accident to be the last responder (who might not even see action) to another accident. THINK!

" This is in response to the "it could be your loved one" response. If you had read the complete scenerio RIGHT, then you would have read that the driver TRIED to pull off the road but while she TRIED to do so, the ambulance ran her off the road while trying to pass the firetruck! How dare you pass judgement on this person saying that this person should have gotten a ticket. Did you ever stop to think also that there are times when you feel so overwhelmed by the sirens flying up behind you that you get scared and arent sure of what to do in a split second? Or the fact that maybe you are in the middle of nowhere and all that surrounds you are deep ditches and no where to pull off the road COMPLETELY? I dont see where this driver was in the wrong for anything. She TRIED to pull over but was ran off before she could finish. "

" I agree that they shouldn't have passed on a double line, however, do you not realize that in this state there is a law that requires you to yield right of way to ALL emergency vehicles which means you should have received a ticket! Read the law you could have been charged if you had caused an accident by not yielding the right away. Next time pull over to the side of the road, COMPLETELY off the road and STOP your vehicle, allow the emergency vehicle(firetruck, ambulance, law enforcement) to pass then get on the road. I am not saying that what they did was right because it wasn't and they should have known better but you my dear were in the wrong as well. "

" I AGREE WITH THIS ARTICLE. I HAVE SEEN WHERE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMS WERE SPEEDING AND WASNT EVEN GOING TO A CALL. ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS I HAVE HAD LAW ENFORCEMENT TURN THEIR BLUE LIGHTS ON AND PASS ME THEN TURN THEIR LIGHTS BACK OFF. ITS NOT FAIR THAT US AS CITIZENS GET A TICKET FOR SPEEDING OR DIOBEYING THE ROAD LAWS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMS DONT GET THE SAME. IF YOU NOT ON A CALL THEN DONT SPEED. "
