Allison Newsome Hundley

LITTLETON — Allison Newsome Hundley of John Newsome Road in Littleton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Hicks “Jim” Hundley, former sheriff and register of deeds of Warren County; and three of her brothers, Linwood Newsome of Roanoke Rapids and Horace Newsome and Lloyd Newsome, both of Littleton.

The daughter of the late Jesse and Annie Newsome of Littleton, Mrs. Hundley was born March 30, 1926, in Warren County. She attended Littleton High School and worked at J.P. Stephens and Company, Norlina Mills and the Warren County Public School system. Her death followed a lengthy and courageous battle with heart trouble and associated complications. Active in church and community until the demise of her health, she was formerly a member of Norlina United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, the Norlina Women’s Club and Enterprise Baptist Church in Littleton.

Allison is survived by three children, Glen Newsome and his wife, Janet, of Timberlake, Wayne Newsome and his wife, Bobbi Jo, of Wilson, Shelia Wasco and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two stepchildren, Andrew Hundley of Warrenton and Patsy Boswell of South Hill, Va.; one brother, Palmer Newsome and his wife, Geraldine, of Littleton; her sisters, Doris Dillard of Littleton, Mary Dillard of Warrenton, Edith Marsh and her husband, Warner, of Richmond, Va., and Elsie Gaither and her husband, Bill, of Littleton; Jeanette Newsome of Littleton, Doris Newsome of Littleton, and special friend, Hugh Hoyle of Henderson; eight grandchildren and spouses and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, at Blaylock Funeral Home in Littleton, which is handling the arrangements, and other times at her home at 380 John Newsome Road, Littleton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at Enterprise Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darren Lambert, the Rev. Glen Newsome Jr. and the Rev. Greg Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be given to the Warren County Rescue Squad.
