Annie Laurie Dickens Kaasmann

GREENVILLE — Annie Laurie Dickens (Mrs. Bernard A.) Kaasmann died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, in Greenville, after an extended illness.

Born Nov., 19, 1927, in Enfield, she was a daughter of Jesse Draper Dickens Sr. and Eulala Powell Dickens. She married Lt. Col. Bernard A. Kaasmann USMC, retired, July 2, 1945.

An avid golfer, she won many trophies and medals playing on the Ladies team at Camp Lejeune Marine Base and other courses throughout Eastern North Carolina. Her favorite hobby was delivering Meals on Wheels. Her family adjusted to holiday meals at odd hours because her priority was to make sure her Meals on Wheels recipients had their meals at the traditional holiday times.

She is survived by her son, Bernard Kaasmann; his fiancée, Janet M. Earl of Greenville; a granddaughter, Annie Laurie Cordle Per Lee and her husband, Calvin James Per Lee; and great-grandson, Zachary Tyler Per Lee of Fuquay Varina; sister, Dr. Doris Dickens Wilson of Halifax; Grace Dickens Ewing of Havelock, Rosa Dickens Phillips and her husband, Gerald Phillips, of Morehead City, Susan Dickens Baumgartner of Detroit; and several nieces and nephews.

 Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, at Arlington National Cemetery at the grave of her husband. The cemetery has requested that attendees be at the Main Administration Building by 8:30 a.m. on the date of the service.

Memorials may be sent to “Meals on Wheels” and mailed to: Manager, Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1045, Swansboro NC 28584.
