ROANOKE RAPIDS — City Council could make an announcement as soon as Wednesday on who the new city manager will be, Mayor Drewery Beale said this morning.

An emergency meeting is tentatively planned for Wednesday although no time and location has been set, the mayor said. “If everything is kosher we’ll be able to make an announcement at that time.”

City Attorney Gilbert Chichester has been negotiating the contract with the candidate, whose name is still being withheld because the person has not officially taken the job.

Beale declined to discuss terms of the contract but said once the candidate accepts, its details would be released.

Council interviewed three finalists for the job two weeks ago.
