The racing begins at noon on Saturday at Roanoke Rapids Day Use Park.
The event will wrap up at 5 p.m.
Event coordinators are putting together the final details to make this
one of the most exciting events Roanoke Rapids has ever seen. They’re
expecting a big turnout this weekend and as such they need your help.
According to Coordinator L.E. Outlaw, if you’ve got a 16-foot to
21-foot power or fishing boat, he wants to talk to you.
“We still need four to six patrol boats to help out in case a boat
breaks down,” Outlaw said, adding, these volunteers will have the
perfect view of the race from inside the course.
Outlaw also noted pontoon boats don’t work well as patrol boats, but
they do need a pontoon for the start/finish line for the officials.
This is the first year for the Carolina Cup Regatta on Roanoke Rapids
Lake and it promises to be a thrilling family event free of charge.
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and coolers down to the park and enjoy
some great racing. No alcohol is allowed. Parking is available at
Belmont Elementary School and a shuttle will be provided to and from
the park. Racers will be available to talk with you and the kids about
the sport, and vendors will be on site with drinks and food.
