LAKE GASTON — The June luncheon for the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce was all about tourism.

Business people around Lake Gaston met at the Watersview Restaurant Tuesday for the monthly luncheon meeting sponsored by the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce. Attendees were treated to roast beef sandwiches, barbecue and potato salad, while they learned about the chamber’s efforts to promote tourism in the area. Della Batts | Daily Herald

During the meal, attendees watched the Lake Gaston video, “Lake Gaston, a Place for all Seasons.”

Chamber members and Digital Concepts of Roanoke Rapids produced the video in 2007. It features information about life on the lake, geography, local events and interviews along with footage of the 2007 Holiday Boat Parade.

Recent discussions with the N.C. Tourism Board concluded Lake Gaston is a prime location to promote tourism and the tourism committee has explored ways to encourage growth and development on the lake. The consensus — video is a powerful tool that can be used not only by the chamber, but also by lake businesses.

The idea tourism at the lake can also benefit surrounding areas has also been discussed. The committee is further exploring strategic partnerships with the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau and is involved in the development of the Tourism Authority in Warren County.

Discussion was held on updating the video and some of the elements needed to make it more generalized. Others talked about how they used it in their business to give prospective clients an idea of what life on Lake Gaston is like. McKinley Perkinson, public affairs and marketing manager for Community Memorial Healthcare Center, said her department would use the video in physician recruitment.

Chamber members envision using the video on the chamber Web site and at an information kiosk to be constructed on the chamber grounds. Attendees were given a copy of the current video. The Lake Gaston Chamber welcomes photos or video footage to be considered for use in the updated video.
