On the other hand, increases from Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District and the Town of Weldon for water and sewer rates are making it necessary to raise rates in Northampton County across the board. “This one pains me,” said Martin.
The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District increased their rates by 7 percent for water purchased and sewer treatment per 1,000 galloons. Weldon increased their rates by 6 percent. “This is to offset the increases in the cost to purchase water,” said Martin.
Residential and commercial customers will see a $1 increase on their bills. “That Increase equates to 5.2 percent,” said Martin. Those changes will go into effect July 1.
