A local board made up of representatives of Halifax County Department of Social Services, Council on Aging, Choanoke Area Development Association of NC, Inc. (CADA), county government and local churches will determine how the funds awarded to Halifax County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations in the area. The board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the national board, local organizations chosen to receive funds must:

• Be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government.

• Have an accounting system.

• Practice nondiscrimination.

• Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.

• If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying organizations are urged to apply.

Public or private voluntary organizations interested in applying to administer Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should contact Gail Walker at (252) 537-1111 for an application. The deadline for applications is March 25 at 5 p.m. and they should be submitted to Ms. Gail Walker, Halifax County CADA Community Services Center located in Roanoke Rapids. For more information call Gail Walker at (252) 539-4155.
